European Philharmonic of Switzerland

The European Philharmonic of Switzerland (EPOS) was founded in 2015 by members of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO) to continue the musical path and partnership they established during the last 15 years in the environment of the GMJO. Representing musicians of more than 20 nationalities aged between 20 and 35, the EPOS is without a doubt one of the most exciting and promising young orchestras of today.

Despite being of young age, the orchestra`s members are looking back on long-established collaborations and orchestra tours with renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Franz Welser-Möst, Philippe Jordan, Ingo Metzmacher, Antonio Pappano, Jonathan Nott, Iván Fischer, Myung-Whun Chung, and Sir Colin Davies. Notable appearences include performances at prestigious venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London, the KKL Lucerne, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Semper Opera in Dresden, the Scala in Milan, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the Salzburg Festival.

The majority of the EPOS members are holding permanent or trail positions in leading European orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony, the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France Orchestre National de France, the Rotterdam and the Hague Phiharmonic, the Teatro Reggio Torino, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestras of Galicia, the Tonhalle and the Philharmonia Zurich, as well as the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne.

Notwithstanding their various commitments, the EPOS members are excited and ambitious to devote their time to play together and to regain once more that vital dose of strength and inspiration from one another. In it`s success, the European Philharmonic of Switzerland allows its members to recreate and develop on their common experiences and to carry on Claudio Abbado’s belief that in making music with friends benefits both the audience and the musicians alike
